Le 33eme Festival concours international d’Accordéon a lieu à Castelfidardo du 13 au 19 Octobre. Le festival comporte une série de concours pour solo, duo, groupe et orchestres. La date limite d’inscription pour participation est le 31 août.
Le festival comprend également des concerts et d’autres événements liés à l'accordéon. Sous la direction du Maestro Paolo Picchio, les concerts au Teatro Astra comprennent: 21,15.

L'Italien Pino Di Modugno, retourne en Angleterre à titre de chef invité de "Accordéons international 2008», Seacroft Holiday Village, Norfolk, 14 au 17Novembre. Il a été pour la derniére fois au Royaume-Uni en 1997.
Pino Di Modugno, vainqueur de nombreuses compétitions nationales et internationales dans les deux genres de musique (jazz et la musique classique), est reconnu comme un des accordéonnistes d'Italie d’élite. Il a joué dans de nombreux pays, États-Unis, Canada, Royaume-Uni, Allemagne, Suisse, Portugal et Venezuela.
Le festival comprend des concerts, des ateliers, de la danse et une foire commerciale. Il apparaît également à l’ "Accordéons internationale 2008» avec Lars Ek Hot Trio - la Suède, Giancarlo Caporilli - Italie, Royaume-Uni et artistes Stefan Andrusyschyn et Denise Leigh (soprano), Harry Hussey, Bert Santilly, accordéon et sextuor Norvic Concordia.
"Accordéons international 2008”, poursuit une tradition populaire de pré-fêtes de Noël dans la région de East Anglia fondée en 1986 par la fin de Malcolm Gee. Le présent organisateur est Heather Smith.
Accordéonistes Cherie de Boer et Jean-Pierre Guiran, connu comme le duo ‘Accordéon Mélancolique’, ont publié un nouveau CD intitulé "Les Invités". Le CD inclut "Gånglåt" (suédois traditionnel), «The Godfather» (Love Theme, Tarantella et Mazurka), «Le Cygne» (Saint-Saëns), «Klezmer» (traditionnel yiddish), et «Gut Morgn» (Kostakovsky) , Et les autres morceaux sont des compositions originales de Jean-Pierre Guiran.
Le duo ‘Accordéon Mélancolique’ a donné des centaines de concerts au cours de ces dernières années, principalement aux Pays-Bas, et est apparu à la télévision et la radio à plusieurs reprises. En 1998, ils ont eu l'honneur de jouer à la Marshall Aid Commemoration à Rotterdam, devant un auditoire qui comprenait le président américain, Bill Clinton, le prince Willem Alexander et le Premier ministre néerlandais Willem Kok. En dépit de ces réalisations, ils prennent un grand plaisir dans leur engagement à jouer leur musique dans les maisons de retraite à travers les Pays-Bas. Les voyages à l'étranger inclus le Canada, l'Islande et Danemark.

L’Accordéoniste italien Ivano Battiston détient des master classes à Fier, à quelques kilomètres de Apollonia, l'Albanie, du 6 au 13 Septembre, qui aura lieu dans le cadre de plusieurs cours de formation musicale.
Les autres enseignants des cours sont les suivants: Massimo Somenzi - piano, Giulio Rovighi - violon, et Alain Meunier - violoncelle et de musique de chambre. Le prix d'inscription est de 250 euros.

The town of Philipsburg, Montana again played host to the Rocky Mountain Accordion Celebration. The event took place on August 1st and 2nd. An international collection of accomplished accordion musicians came from all over the US and Canada to share their music and benefit the local schools music department.
Headlining the event was Mario Padone (picture above), of Sugarland, Texas, and Richard Theiss (picture below), of Vancouver, BC, with guest performances by Bev Fess of Alberta, Canada, and Sam Thomas of Cheney, Washington. Musicians of all kinds and levels of expertise jammed together throughout the two-day event. All who attended had a good time, and a generous donation was given to inspire and motivate young musicians.
In summation, this was a thrilling , engaging, moving accordion event that brought people together to share the music they love, renew old acquaintances and make new ones. The event will be held again next year the first weekend in August 2009.
In the new issue of ‘Strumenti & Musica - the magazine for music and music instruments’ there are interviews, stories and information of major Italian and foreign musicians. Also, for all lovers of the accordion, there is are contributions by Frederic Deschamps and the jazz accordionist Renzo Ruggieri. The magazine includes news, events and concerts organized in all parts of the world.
Since January 2008, student Sabrina Fuetterer (picture left) as a part of her degree dissertation at the Institute of Cultural Administration in Ludwigsburg, has had online an accordion encyclopedia which she has initiated with assistance from the Hohner-Conservatory of Trossingen. The objective of her project is to collect knowledge about the accordion and to make it accessible to everyone, who is interested in accordions.
This new source is available in German and English, making it possible to exchange opinions on the web in these two languages.
Birmingham’s Richard Adey is the guest artiste at North Staffs Accordion Club on Tuesday, August 19th, 7.30pm. North Staffs AC meets at the Holditch Miners’ Welfare Club, London Road, Chesterton, near Newcastle-under-Lyme.
Richard Adey studied accordion with Ingrid Gould, and plays in hotels, restaurants and accordion clubs. He recently played on the Ivor Novello Award winning debut CD of Midlands-based singer/songwriter Scott Matthews. He performs regularly at the Eastbourne Accordion Festival, and will be entering the UK Roland V Accordion competition at St Audries Bay, Somerset, on September 7th.
The Victor Prieto Trio + One perform at Smoke, 2751 Broadway, New York, NY 10025, on August 20th. They will perform three times, at 8pm, 10pm and 11.30pm. The group line up is Victor Prieto – accordion and gaita, Chris Cheek – sax, Carlo de Rosa – bass, and Henry Cole – drums.
Victor Prieto writes: “I will be presenting my trio plus one at Smoke, NY, and also my new instrument, gaita Gallega (Galician bagpipe). After almost two years looking for a second instrument, I have started to study it last week. There are many things I have to learn about gaita, but I am ready to learn more and more about it…. so bring it on”.
The 36th annual music summer school known as Scoil Éigse the Annual, organised by Comhaltas Ceoltori Eireann, takes place in Tullamore, August 17th to 22nd, the week preceding the All Ireland Festival (Fleadh Cheoil na hÉireann).
This summer school of Irish traditional music is the most comprehensive of its kind with classes on the fiddle, concert flute, whistle, 2-row button accordion, concertina, uilleann pipes, harp, banjo, piano accordion, traditional singing in English and Irish, set dancing, traditional dancing, accompaniment and Irish Language.
The Scoil Éigse is a phenomenal development through which hundreds of Irish people as well as many visitors from foreign lands, come to a better and deeper understanding of Irish music and culture. There is no age limit at the Scoil Éigse and certainly no generation gap. Enthusiasm knows no age barriers and whether you are keen on learning sets or making a comeback on the accordion you will find fellow pupils to join you in a session, to exchange tunes, songs or steps.
The Motion Trio, an accordion trio from Poland founded in 1996 by Janusz Wojtarowicz – leader and composer of most of the group's repertoire. Motion Trio is a unique phenomenon on the European and worldwide music scene. Performing their own music, the group is changing the way the accordion is perceived as an instrument.

The Gypsy Arts Festival South East takes place on September 6th and 7th at The Hop Farm, Paddock Wood, Kent, England.
The festival features live music, dancing, storytelling, open fire cooking demonstrations and tastings, and various Gypsy Traveller crafts. The Festival will also feature music, step dancing and art workshops, and Gypsy Traveller film screenings.
Most of the performers include accordions and/or melodeons, and The performers include The Orchard Family, The Jaipur Kawa Brass Band, Parno Graszt, Hai La Drum, The Walking Wounded, and Sarah the Singing Gypsy.
Norwegian accordionist Øivind Farmen performs on the following dates. Most of these concerts are with Flukt, a trio comprising accordion, violin, percussion, who play a unique blend of Scandinavian folk music, blues and classical music.

Jean-Louis Noton will demonstrate Cavagnolo accordions on September 3rd, 17th and 14th at the Cavagnolo factory, Beynost, near Lyon.
Cavagnolo specialise in musette accordions (5 row chromatic button accordions), but also make piano accordions. They are the manufacturers of the reedless ‘Odyssee’ model.
The Confédération Mondiale de l'Accordéon (CMA) who run the Trophée Mondiale competition have updated their web site - entry closing date 1st September 2008.
